 Worldwide Plaza | Midtown

Worldwide Plaza, designed by David Childs of Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill, is a late 1980s building with strong 1930s period notes. Completed in 1988, the building is divided into three sections—base, shaft, and capital—with design elements inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, particularly visible in the lobby.

For the hallway renovation, we focused on creating a cohesive design that reflected the architectural details of the building, especially drawing from the tower’s structure. The carpet pattern was influenced by the building’s bold lines and geometric forms, tying it to the crown and overall architectural rhythm. We complemented the existing style with updated lighting, wallcovering, and paint selections, all aimed at enhancing the modern Art Deco aesthetic while maintaining the integrity of the original design.

The lighting was carefully selected to brighten the hallways and maintain visual interest introducing wood into the palette, while the wallcovering provided a neutral backdrop with contrasting doors. Together, these elements modernized the space while respecting the building’s history and design lineage.
