Quaker Ridge | Gramercy Park, New York | 2020

Quaker Ridge’s white brick exterior still shines as a prime example of understated ‘60s elegance, but its resident hallway experience was in need of a refresh. KAID's solution employs local art amidst an immersive synthesis of dramatic tones and textures. The graceful updates aspire to maintain a cosmopolitan ambiance inside this residential haven.

Not every hallway leads to a home – but dead-end spaces can create cognitive dissonance on a daily basis. KAID commissioned abstract pieces from an up-and-coming local artist to inhabit these typically-problematic corridor terminations. A spotlight reveals each piece floating in disappearing frames that pull double-duty as protective encasements. The warm visual pieces compensate for the smaller proportions of the corridors, and add defining personality to each floor.

Custom vestibule benches designed by KAID founder Blayne Ross employ a mix of softly rounded corners and perpendicular angles– together comprising a matte volume, whose negative spaces reveal an inner glow.

The comprehensive scope also included the addition of recessed cove lighting in all hallways, as well as exterior work including sidewalk replacement, awning replacement, and new planters.
