Maison East | New York | 2017

How can an interior leverage light-touch updates to express a lasting contemporary design? KAID drew upon the classic gilded traditions of surrounding Upper East Side architecture to inspire a refresh for this ‘80s tower, Maison East.

The team found opportunities to embed warm gold tones that reveal themselves over the course of a journey through the space, such as those in the custom carpet. Its nuanced patterns allude to the shapes of the building’s sleek balconies, whose stacked angles create a shimmering golden warmth as they reflect the setting sun.

A balance of mirrored and textured wall coverings complement the defining gold & greyscale tones, and an array of understated soft lighting ensures the space feels welcoming and energetic, despite a lack of natural light.
